Where to go in winter if you still want summer? Winter-sun destinations from Budapest

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria — with mild winters, one of the most popular winter-sun destinations from Budapest

When it's worth chasing winter sun

When Budapest sits around or below 0°C in December and January, there are a handful of destinations reachable on a direct flight where it's 15–23°C at the very same time — short sleeves and a beach, not a hat and scarf. These aren't classic "hot summer" destinations, but places that specifically stay pleasant through the winter months.

The numbers: how warm, where

According to fridayjet's data, among the winter-sun destinations reachable direct from Budapest, Dubai and Abu Dhabi average 20–23°C from December to February, Gran Canaria's Las Palmas and the Red Sea resorts of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh sit at 17–20°C, and Madeira's Funchal and Marrakech in Morocco average 13–17°C. All seven destinations have a direct flight from Budapest.

How to choose between them

If you want the warmest option, Dubai and Abu Dhabi take the lead, though the flight is also longer. If you're optimising for a long weekend with a shorter flight, the Canary Islands or Marrakech are the better pick. Our winter-sun destinations page shows current flight prices and temperature data for each, so you can compare them easily.
